Bariatrics

• Considering surgical weight loss?

We specialize in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, or weight loss surgery, that helps you reach your weight loss goals and also improve your health. If you have tried diet and exercise programs to lose weight with only limited or temporary success, it may be time to consider a long-term solution that leads to significant weight loss.

This surgery also improves or even eliminates weight-related health conditions, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, and joint pain.

bariatrics

• How to know if you are an aspirant for minimally invasive bariatric surgery?

Commonly if you have been diagnosed as morbidly obese, weighing at least 50 pounds above your ideal body weight. Some criteria include:

• Our Bariatric doctors perform different types of bariatric surgery, including:

Gastric Sleeve

Also called a vertical sleeve gastrectomy, with this procedure, the surgeon alters the shape of the stomach to create a “sleeve,” reducing its size by 80% to 85%, while retaining its normal function. Patients can expect to lose about half of their excess weight over a period of 2-3 years.

Gastric Band

This procedure is considered the least invasive type of bariatric surgery, requiring the least recovery effort, though some patients find it less effective in helping them achieve their weight loss goals. During gastric band surgery, the surgeon installs an adjustable silicone band, often referred to as a lap-band or LAGB, around the top section of the stomach, adjusting it to restrict food consumption.

Gastric Bypass

This procedure generally provides the fastest results but requires major lifestyle changes. For this procedure, the surgeon removes a large portion of the stomach and re-attaches it to a distal portion of the intestine to create a different pathway or “bypass” for food. Bypass patients who commit to the required lifestyle changes can expect to shed up to 80% of excess body fat.

Revisional Surgery

Patients who have previously had bariatric surgery but have not achieved their weight-loss goals or have encountered problems may choose to revise their previous surgery via a new procedure. Bariatric revisional surgery can boost weight loss, correct problems or associated side effects, and improve health.
